Italian Fist Pumps

Ok, so as one with an Italian heritage from the tristate area I feel like I have a legitimate obligation to say something about the POS Jersey Shore show on MTV. Now that the public has their full attention of this show given the "punch heard 'round the world"... which makes that "bitch slap" from The Real World back in the 90s look like Sesame Street. First off, go figure it's a Viacom reality show to begin with... I would have said it was either them of Fox who would have aired this. It's unfortunate I have to call these pieces of garbage with Dragon Ball Z haircuts one of my own nationality.

If anyone has seen the show - there's a toolbox on there that refers to his abs as "The Situation".... I can't speak for the Italians... I really can't...

Unfortunately, there's an extremist group within every race/nationality - and they bring out the bad in all of us - let us all rise above the human labels.

Midnight Specialists - the All Nighter Free Download

The Midnight Specialists consist of MC extraordinaire, the Master, and beat-smith taeOne. Their debut album, The All Nighter, is a brooding and cautionary tale of modern urban life in New York City. The Master provides personal insights and lyrical dexterity rarely seen in todays hip hop. taeOne’s soundscapes range from classic east coast boom bap to drum and bass. The combination results in a display of a plethora of styles that manifests itself in the form of a struggle between cynical disdain and undying faith, dripping with chest-vibrating bass and wielding an edge of paranoia. Their style is rooted in the classic New York rap sound, with Boot Camp Click and Organized Konfusion being central influences.

They begin the album with a scary and off putting rant from comedic legend George Carlin recorded shortly after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. This sense of dread is a central element of the album and provides the Midnight Specialists with the fury needed to make a classic New York City hip hop album.

PRESS MENTIONS

"East Coast trio The Midnight Specialists provide three verses of paranoid street rap over three different beats. It’s very trippy and it requires multiple listens. I rarely get anything this good from a random blast. Might have to kinda sorta check this album out when it drops." - metallungies.com

"I gave it a listen while I was home for a bit Saturday and was amazed by the track. It's slower in nature, but has some cool sounds entrenched into the rhythm. But what it does mainly is let Reef, Lex and the rest of the MCs just run a muck all over the track. We know what Reef is capable of and it's good to hear my good friend Lex kill a track again. Great song all the way around." - www.wydublog.com (Wake Your Daughter Up)

"Midnight Specialists (The Master & taeOne) release the first leak off their upcoming record, The All Nighter, featuring Philadelphia's own Reef the Lost Cauze, as well as guest verses from Lex and Amen. This track is a must download for those that can never get enough of that grimey East Coast boom bap sound that leans toward lyricism and bravado, rather than swagger and style." - http://theurbankerouac.blogspot.com

Get Right - Pussy, Kicks & Comic Books

“Many are recorded, few are made…” a quotation from a new, Philadelphia bred artist “Get Right”. This new sensation is turning heads in the streets, airwaves, industry… EVERYWHERE. Philly’s most sought-out free agent, “Get Right”, hasn’t failed to disappoint with his new mixtape, “Pussy, Kicks & Comic Books”. Now in the times where artists like T.I., Young Jeezy, and Lil Wayne (The HOVA of the South), are getting more respect and airplay than most northern rappers (even Soulja Boy gets more play than Jadakiss!), rap up north has no doubt needed a savior. Get Right just might be that messiah. From track 1-20 “Pussy, Kicks & Comic Books” was on point, from the beats to his Lupe like flow; sh*t nearly every bar was either dope or funny. The delivery and production was solid and presented in a cinematic fashion. I’m normally the first to trash a mixtape but I’m going to have to say that “Pussy, Kicks & Comic Books” might be the underground mixtape of the year… so far. As far as I’m concerned, the game has fallen off, everyone is recording, and just about ANYONE can get signed, but I predict Philly’s newest big hit, will be a made national *SUPERSTAR*.

Check him out @ http://www.myspace.com/GetRight53 , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnUJNhko8zg (a video of him on BET's "The Deal"), or listen to him @ http://www.imeem.com/getright53.

New TaeOne album - Midnight

Please support my dude TaeOne's most recent Release of his Production album: Midnight. TaeOne has composed the makings of a classic. Already receiving love on other sites, this album features remixes from Andre 3000, Big L, The Clispe, Jay Z, Lex of Sinistah Circle, AZ, CBC, and the Midnight Specialists

Born and bred in Washington Heights, notoriously a hotbed for hip hop, taeOne first dabbled in the scene as a graff writer, roaming the streets and subway tunnels of New York's underground. After getting popped by the cops for vandalism, he got his hands on an Akai s20 and decided to use his creative energy more productively as a beatsmith.

taeOne curates a sound that captures and expands on the spirit of 90s hip hop. Naming the Beatminerz, Organized Noise, and Jay Dee as influences, no sound or tempo is off limits. taeOne's versatility means his beats are at home in the seediest strip clubs and the finest upscale lounges.

His new album, Midnight, is dedicated to all those who thrive on the energy of the dark and eerie early hours. The calmness/ dread that nighttime brings has always been a real inspiration for taeOne musically. A lot of what made 90's golden era hip hop (Mobb Deep, Nas, Black Moon, Wu Tang) so classic was the dark sinister tone of Giuliani era New York City, especially at night. With this album taeOne expands on that tone and breaths new life into a generation of Hip Hop that is close to lost.

Jay- Z Death of Autotune - The Aftermath

As opposed to popular belief, this blog isn't just an advertising billboard for me to just post link after link to song after song... Unlike most blogs out there you can actually READ a few things...

For the sake of my own sanity, I gotta put in my 2 cents about Jay Z's Death of Autotune... Literally overnight, D.O.A. jumped from Hot 97 to an online music invasion. The beat first of all IS CRAZY! A List! The song itself, however has an internal issue of having too big of a concept to even be a song! The lyrics, honestly, aren't Jay's best... and that's tough coming from me by personally... being such an avid fan and following his career to the point that the first Blueprint was basically my theme music in the summer of '01 as many of you probably shared that same experience! Fast forward to now, we have the former president of Def Jam singing off key on a hook and could have just let it be.... "C'mon Jay's just havin fun with it tho, he's sayin his last goodbyes to autotune that genius"......Before I get corrected... I get it. However the very foundations of a recording is that a RECORDING is FOREVER, you can't go back after you record the original... So what have a sub par singing performance because you feel like it? i'm not askin Jay to have perfect pitch or anything, but maybe no ID or Kayne or someone else in the studio could have said "umm... hey jay I don't think the key you're singing in matches the beat". it's not like Jay can do his super human mental writing and think of something else that would have made more sense... it would have taken him 5 minutes to think of something else... If even that....

Also, before people start hating on the 10001 remixes we will probably get from this song (I've personally heard about 4 already) saying that "people need to stop ripping off classic tracks...
Producers don't leave and extra full verse and hook part as an outro to a song for fun... they do it so people can jack the mp3, loop it and release their own version without having to wait for the next Armz CD to come out.

Let's hope Jay's DOA DOES in fact bring the Death to a lot of sub par autotune careers and allow people to fall back on the effect for a bit... I've been hearing A&R's saying "no more autotune" since last year anyways... so FALL BACK!!!!

Jay do us all a favor and make another one call D.O.O.R. - Death of overrated "rappers"

The industry is buzzin once again!

As most of you know Sic Osyrus has been working very hard to get his name known through his diligent work ethic. Sic Osyrus has had a stellar year thus far, and it's getting better by the day. This 'Off The Radar' feature in July's issue of The Source (which gets released nationwide) is an extra special look because of the 'Power 30' feature which is the best selling issue consistently every year for the mag, print is about 400k nationwide.

In other news, Rebel Starr's summer is looking to be something special as they wll be opening up for Gucci Mane later on this summer! If anyone has seen them live you can agree that their energy and animation is uncanny!

Rebel Starr's debut album will be dropping soon so keep an eye out for that!

Fiyah Marshall and the Brill Building

I was unexpectedly chillin in KMA Studio last night with Bermuda artist, Fiyah Marshall, and his manager. We kicked it for a bit and I was filling him in on some ASCAP info... check Fiyah Marshall's video below - he's on his way!!

Aside from Fabolous doing a session in the neighboring studio, the one thing that hit me was that it was the first time I stepped foot in the Brill Building - if you don't knnow the musical significance of the Brill Building and it's contribution to music... pick up this book... or google it.

While talking to the studio manager, Roz Rosner, he told us that we were actually standing in the exact place where all the pianos were lined up and some of the most prolific songwriters in history layed the foundation of Doo Wop! Entering that building is an experience within itself if you know the history and you have never been.

RH Bless “Bringing that Beat Back” Vol. 1 – East Coast Dedication

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RH Bless “Bringing that Beat Back” Vol. 1 – East Coast Dedication

Release Date: May 13, 2009

Swift, clever and poignant rhymes over classic old school beats is exactly what RH Bless delivers on Bring That Beat Back Vol. 1 via Block Exchange Entertainment. The mixtape is a dedication to legendary East coast emcees like Rakim, KRS-One, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah and many more.

Bring That Beat Back showcases the Brooklyn emcee’s lyrical prowess over classic songs like Big Daddy Kane’s “Ain’t No Half-Stepping” and Brand Nubian’s “Slow Down.” The 14-track heater hosted by DJ Cool Kev is part one of a two part series which will feature Bless rapping over classic West coast-inspired beats on Vol. 2 to be released later this year.

“I wanted to pay homage to Hip-Hop’s past; emcees who laid down the foundation and inspired a subsequent generation of emcees. Plus I had to grab everyone’s attention and show you all my skills” says Bless about the mixtapes.

Bless is continuing to position himself as a major player on the independent scene with the impending release Vol.1. Previously he had released several mixtapes and street albums including The Struggle, the Hustle, the Prayer, Heart and Soul of the Streets and Power, Passion, Love. He’s also been featured on music alongside some artists like Talib Kweli, Royce 5’9, 40 Glock and Raekwon to name a few.

Bring That Beat Back will be available for free download. For more information on RH Bless visit Myspace.com/RHBless.

Ready for the PHX Invasion, Sha Money's One Stop Shop Producer Conference with DJ Premier, Rza, Q Tip, Pete Rock, Just Blaze, + other power players

So here I am chillin in front of a computer... white shirt and tie looking all Corporate America... and I'm finishing up getting ready for the One Stop Shop Producer Conference that lifts off in just about about 12 more hours...

My plane leave @ 6:30AM EST and I'm goin thru time travel and landing around 9ish PHX time.

This is the 3rd year in a row us @ iStandard are going out to the OSS to do our thing and bring together some of the most powerful influential and legendary producers in the world, famous or not famous.... together, in one room... Don't believe me ? google it... as a matter of fact check out all your hip hop related twitter friends and see how many are going (I've been on my computer nerd shit recently so please excuse me)

Honestly having a bunch of producers in a room like this basically represents a huge fraternity party.... the reason I say fraternity is because there really is a brotherhood between producers... (male or female at that). We all speak the same language... we go through the same troubles... and we can relate to one another even if we are meeting for the first time.

I am definitely looking forward to this and even though I've been to a million panels... I always walk away having a higher self value than when I left - and that not even in a self amping up sort of way... Hopefully my next blog will bring the dopeness...

If you couldn't make it... maybe you should check out istandardproducers.com and catch up... and even sign up for the site (BIG PLUS it's free for song writers and artists.)

Just to reminise.. here are some shot from last year:
